18K prescription painkillers seized in Haridwar

The Special Task Force (STF) recovered a large consignment of a prescription painkiller from an abandoned motorcycle in the Landhaura area of Haridwar district on Tuesday. A total of 18,000 capsules of the drug were seized during the operation. According to police, the drugs seized fall under the controlled narcotic category and are often misused as intoxicating drugs.

The value of the seized capsules is estimated to be in lakhs of rupees. Along with the capsules, police also recovered a motorcycle from the spot. The seized goods have been sealed by the police.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and further legal action is being taken. STF senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said that the forward and backward links of the consignment are being investigated.  

“Our teams are trying to find out the source and destination of the drugs. A bigger gang may be involved in this illegal trade and more arrests are expected soon,” he added.
