The senior superintendent of police (SSP) Dehradun, Pramendra Dobal has suspended constable Mahesh Uniyal, who was posted at the police lines in Dehradun, in connection with the alleged assault on teachers at government polytechnic, Pitthuwala. Earlier, the SSP had suspended a sub-inspector Mahesh Kandwal over the same incident.
Meanwhile, demanding more action from the police as regards the June 5 incident at the government polytechnic in Pitthuwala, Dehradun, the Uttarakhand Polytechnic Teachers Association (UPTA) has started a boycott of college work. They alleged that the police action was not sufficient. The association has been demanding action against all those involved in the incident. The UPTA president Prashant Dobhal said that four other individuals were also involved in the incident and police should also take action on them.
According to UPTA functionaries, some outsiders barged into the institution on June 5 and misbehaved with its officials and employees involving pushing, scuffling and abusive behaviour. “Some staff members were injured in the incident, which affected the academic and administrative work of the institution,” Dobhal alleged.
He further said that teachers, officers and employees need a safe environment to work properly.
The association demanded a fair investigation into the matter and strict legal action against those responsible. It has also urged the State government to strengthen security arrangements in government polytechnic institutions across the state.
The association further said that the matter has already been brought to the notice of the Technical Education department and the State government. “If action is not taken against the accused soon, employees and officers of the government polytechnic institutions may launch protests through democratic means,” warned Dobhal.
As part of its protest, employees and officers of government polytechnic institutions across Uttarakhand will wear black badges from June 9 onwards till its demands are met.
