The Regional Transport Office (RTO) Dehradun division launched a crackdown on illegal parking outside its office here on Tuesday, issuing challans to 29 vehicles and seizing seven for blocking traffic in no-parking zones.

Acting on the instructions of Regional Transport Officer (Administration) Sandeep Saini, the RTO initiated a special enforcement campaign to maintain smooth traffic flow outside its premises and curb illegal parking. During this campaign, the assistant regional transport officer (Enforcement) and ARTO (Administration) conducted inspections of nearby shops, internet cafes and areas surrounding the office. During the inspections, action was taken against vehicles parked in no-parking zones. A total of 29 vehicles were challaned and seven were seized for obstructing traffic and violating traffic rules. Additionally, vehicle owners were educated about the importance of following traffic regulations and parking only in designated areas, the officials informed.

Saini stated that haphazard parking in and around the office premises will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Strict action will continue to be taken regularly against those who obstruct traffic by parking in no-parking areas. He emphasised that ensuring traffic discipline is the department’s top priority and a zero-tolerance policy is being adopted for violation of rules. The RTO appealed to the public to park their vehicles only in designated parking areas and to strictly adhere to traffic rules. He also clarified that strict action would be taken against anyone engaging in unauthorised activities around the office or interfering with departmental work, in accordance with the rules, he said.

Saini said that such special campaigns will continue to be conducted by the Transport department in the future to ensure a smooth, safe and systematic traffic system, thus preventing difficulties for citizens including those living near the RTO office.
