With the onset of the monsoon season, Corbett National Park has been closed for tourists, while the Forest department has activated an extensive security and surveillance plan to ensure the safety of wildlife and monitor the movement of poachers.
Informing this, the director, Corbett Tiger Reserve (CTR), Saket Badola said that the night safari operations in all tourism zones under the CTR’s jurisdiction have been suspended, although the day safari remains open in a few zones.
“Continuous wildlife monitoring, prevention of hunting and emergency rescue operations become highly challenging during the monsoon because of the dense forests, overflowing streams and difficult terrain. To tackle these challenges, the Forest officials and staff have intensified patrolling and are maintaining round-the-clock surveillance through advanced e-surveillance towers,” he said, adding that these towers are being regularly monitored by trained Forest personnel, and immediate action is some taken whenever suspicious activities are detected through the surveillance system.
Apart from this, over 100 forest posts and anti-poaching camps have been activated across the CTR area. Round the clock monitoring of forests and wildlife is also being carried out through watch towers, camera traps, GPS-based monitoring systems and modern e-surveillance technologies.
Badola said that under ‘Operation Monsoon-2026,’ all sensitive areas inside the reserve have been identified and necessary preparations have already been made.
“CTR currently has a strong network of trained Forest personnel, patrolling teams, departmental elephants, vehicles, drones, AI-enabled surveillance towers, essential weapons, camera traps, ATV vehicles, motorboats and modern wireless communication systems to ensure effective protection of wildlife during the monsoon season,” he added.
