Man held with 1.5 kg ganja in Rishikesh

A Kotwali Rishikesh police team, while conducting a drive in the Gol Market area, arrested a man identified as Sonu Kumar and recovered marijuana weighing more than 1.5 kg. The 24-year-old accused hails from Samastipur district in Bihar. Police said that following the stern directive from the senior superintendent of police, Dehradun, they have been conducting drives daily to identify the drug traffickers in their respective areas.
Police further said that a case, FIR no 173/2026, under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act, had been registered against the accused at Kotwali Rishikesh. During interrogation, the accused was learnt to have revealed that he had purchased the narcotics at a low price from some local drug addicts living in the Mayakund slum in Rishikesh and was planning to sell it to other drug addicts at a higher price to make a profit. It was also revealed during interrogation that the accused had previously been jailed in Punjab for drug trafficking.
