Kumbh preparations: Garhwal commissioner inspects infrastructure works

The Garhwal commissioner, Anand Swaroop conducted on-site inspection of various construction projects related to the upcoming Ardh Kumbh Mela on Friday. He also took stock of the progress of the ongoing work.
Notably, to complete the preparations for the upcoming Ardh Kumbh Mela by the stipulated time-frame, regular reviews of the construction works, particularly infrastructural works, are being held along with continuous monitoring of their quality and progress at various levels.
The government and fair administration officials said that they are periodically conducting on-site inspections to assess the progress of the works and issuing necessary guidelines to the departments concerned.
The Garhwal commissioner first inspected the under- construction bridge over the Pathri Rau river along Dhanauri-SIIDCUL road. The government has approved Rs16.59 crore for the construction of this two-lane, 90-meter span bridge, being built under the Kumbh Mela fund.
During the inspection, the officials from the Irrigation department and the executing agency stated that a total of 36 foundation pillars are required for the bridge’s construction, of which work on 33 pillars has reached its final stage, and the remaining three will be completed by the end of this month. Following this, pile caps will be constructed and the steel superstructure will be installed. Officials further stated that the construction of the bridge’s steel structure is progressing rapidly in parallel in the workshop.
The divisional commissioner directed that the construction of all foundation pillars and pile caps be completed expeditiously so that the bridge can be operationalised by the stipulated time. He also directed that regular testing be conducted to ensure the quality of the construction work.
Following this, he conducted an on-site inspection of the widening, strengthening and asphalting work of the Dhanauri-SIDCUL motorway. Approval of Rs 6.53 crore has been granted from the Kumbh Mela fund for the improvement and asphalting of this approximately 8.50-kilometer-long stretch.
He said that the alternative routes being developed for the smooth and safe movement of devotees during the Kumbh Mela are extremely important.
Among the senior officers who accompanied the divisional commissioner during the inspection were the additional fair officer Dayanand Saraswati and the executive engineer of Irrigation department Anubhav Nautiyal.
