The Doiwala police arrested the husband and sister-in-law on Saturday in connection with the suspicious death of a woman in Harrawala area of Dehradun on Wednesday. The deceased, Srishti Kandari, who was working as a government school teacher, had made allegations against both of them in a video and sent it to her family group before her death, police said.
Based on the evidence collected during the investigation, the police arrested Saurabh Khatri- who works in the secretariat- and Surabhi Khatri alias Charu from Lakshman Enclave in Harrawala. A case has been registered under Section 80(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The victim’s mother, Seema Kandari of Pauri district, had lodged a complaint at Doiwala police station on July 29 alleging that her daughter who married Khatri in November 2025, was repeatedly harassed for dowry by her husband and his family. She also alleged that her daughter was murdered by her husband, mother-in-law and sister-in-law.
The Doiwala police circle officer Vandana Verma said that the two accused have been arrested based on the complaint. “Our investigation is going on. The accused were arrested based on the deceased’s video based allegations levelled against them,” Verma said.
During the investigation, the victim’s mother gave police the video that her daughter had sent before the incident. In the video, the victim allegedly said that she had been facing consistent harassment from her in-laws after her marriage.
