CS calls for dedicated PMU to expedite U’khand horticulture project

Chief secretary Anand Bardhan has called for the establishment of a dedicated project management unit (PMU) to expedite the Uttarakhand Integrated Horticulture Project. He emphasised that the project should be completed on time through the efforts of a dedicated PMU and continuous monitoring. The CS gave the directive during a review of the progress of externally aided projects at the State secretariat on Wednesday. In the meeting the CS sought detailed information about completed, ongoing and future projects and gave orders accordingly.
CS directed that closure reports for completed projects be submitted to the funding agency, the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA), Ministry of Finance, Government of India as well as to their relevant line departments. He instructed that all slow-moving projects be continuously monitored and necessary actions be taken. Bardhan also emphasised that all essential steps, including increasing manpower and machinery, should be implemented to ensure timely project completion.
Additionally, he directed the Power department to prepare a proposal for an underground power line project in Mussoorie and Nainital. He highlighted the importance of strengthening the education system, particularly in technical education. Infrastructure development in engineering colleges, polytechnics and Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) is essential. He called for the advancement of externally aided projects related to river rejuvenation, animal husbandry, dairy, fisheries and solid waste management initiatives.
