USCW to seek explanation from Doon police over non-functional Pink Booth

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE / Dehradun

The Uttarakhand State Commission for Women (USCW) has decided to seek an explanation from Dehradun police over the non-functioning of the Pink Booth established at Paltan Bazaar for women’s safety. The booth at the provisional State capital’s busiest market is lying defunct, with no police personnel deployed

Talking to The Pioneer, USCW chairwoman Kusum Kandwal said “If the condition of the Pink Booth in the provisional state capital’s market is like this, then it is surely a matter of concern,” she said.

She added that Paltan Bazaar is the most crowded market area in Dehradun and women’s safety there is extremely important. “If the booth has been made at the market area for the safety of women, especially, then it should continue functioning,” Kandwal said.

She said she will soon approach the Dehradun SSP to seek an explanation for the non-functioning of the Pink Booth.

“I will ask why no police personnel are being deployed there and asked that police personnel be permanently deployed at the Pink Booth,” she said.

Regarding this, The Doon Valley Mahanagar Udyog Vyapar Mandal (DVMUVM) president Pankaj Mason also claimed to approach the SSP Dehradun to get the booth regularised permanently

It is important to mention that the Pink Booth was set up at Paltan Bazaar to ensure women’s safety in the crowded market area. However, it has remained non-functional multiple times. The Pioneer has consistently raised the issue earlier as well. Following a previous report, police deployment was done after the matter was taken up with the SSP. But once again, the booth stands abandoned.

Recently, several shoppers also highlighted the problem. They claimed that the area in front of the booth has now become a parking stand for two-wheelers and a space for vendors, defeating its very purpose.
