State secretary for Sanskrit Education Deepak Kumar met the Acting Ambassador of Nepal, Surendra Thapa, at the Nepal Embassy in New Delhi on Wednesday. Discussions on the growing global significance of Sanskrit and the need for deeper academic cooperation between India and Nepal to enhance research, scholarship and educational opportunities in the field of Sanskrit were held in the meeting.
Kumar informed that during the meeting, Thapa praised the efforts to promote Sanskrit, acknowledging Nepal’s rich tradition of Sanskrit scholarship and literature. He expressed confidence that collaboration between the two countries, including the exchange of teaching methods and ongoing support from Indian Sanskrit scholars, will invigorate Sanskrit education and research in Nepal, thereby enhancing its global prestige, he said.
The secretary said that 13 Sanskrit villages have been established in each district of the State. “On Sanskrit Day, August 28, 2026, initiatives such as Sanskrit Gram, Uttarakhand Sanskrit University, Uttarakhand Sanskrit Sansthanam and various Gurukuls will actively promote the enduring relevance of Sanskrit in modern society through seminars, lectures, cultural programs, workshops and public awareness campaigns,’’ he said.
Kumar said that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Uttarakhand Sanskrit University and Nepal Sanskrit University will create new opportunities for academic exchange, joint research and teacher-student collaboration, promoting the study of Sanskrit. He reiterated that the relationship between India and Nepal is uniquely civilisational and is rooted in Sanskrit, Sanatan traditions, philosophy, literature and a rich cultural heritage.
