The ambassador of Suriname, the smallest country of South America, Hanisha Jayaram visited Mansa Devi temple in Haridwar and participated in the Ganga aarti. Her family is said to have its roots in Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh and her ancestors migrated to Suriname many generations ago.
“Despite this, her devotion, perfect performance of rituals and spontaneous chanting of mantras during her religious journey demonstrated that even the distance of generations and thousands of kilometers has not weakened the roots of traditional values,” said a priest who helped her perform the puja.
People of Indian origin in Suriname continue to celebrate festivals, religious rituals and carry forward Sanatan traditions from generation to generation, said sources close to Jayaram.
She also visited Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Swami Kailashananda Giri of Shri Dakshin Kali Mandir.
