The Rajpur police have registered a case against a Dehradun-based digital news platform operator for allegedly cheating a man of around Rs 30 lakh on the promise of a government job and a flat. The accused allegedly promised him a government contract job in the Uttarakhand secretariat.
According to the complaint filed by Ashish Kumar on Saturday, the accused, Abhay Kumar, who runs a media enterprise, came in contact with him in Dehradun in March 2020. Ashish, a native of Bihar, alleged that Abhay promised him a government contract job in the Uttarakhand secretariat.
The complainant stated that he paid around Rs 25 lakh for the job. He was later given a job letter for the post of trainee district development officer, but he never received the promised job. He further said that the accused took another Rs five lakh after showing him a flat and promising to complete a flat agreement.
Ashish also said that several cheques issued by the accused were dishonoured when deposited in the bank. He further accused Abhay of using caste-based slurs and threatening him with death when he demanded his money back.
The Rajpur police have registered a case under Section 316(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and started an investigation.
