On the call of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Scheduled Caste cell, demonstrations were held across the State on the issues of social equality, harmony, equal opportunities and respect for all sections of society. The BJP held this against the Congress’ “lie” on the purification of the Ramlila ground where the Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge had addressed the public last month.
In Dehradun, BJP workers staged a dharna at Gandhi Park where speakers said that the issues of social dignity, equality and harmony are limited to the politics of any particular party but connected to the nation’s social fabric and democratic values. They said that the citizens want to ask Kharge which concrete and effective steps did the Congress take during its long tenure in office for the social, education and economic uplift of the Dalits, deprived and backward sections of society. In a democracy, it is the right of the people to ask questions and the political parties are responsible for providing answers along with facts.
The party leaders said that the BJP SC cell does not want any divisions in society but remains committed to strengthen social equality, equal opportunities, mutual respect and collective development. The BJP clearly believes that every section of society must receive respect and equal opportunities. Social harmony will be strengthened when one rises above political motives to prioritise the respect and rights of the last person in society, the party leaders said. Cabinet ministers Rakha Arya, Ganesh Joshi, Dehradun mayor Saurabh Thapliyal, MLA Vinod Chamoli and other party leaders were also present at the protest.
