The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party supported candidates have won in most of the positions in the District Cooperative Bank (DCB) election in Garhwal division. In the elections held in the six districts of Garhwal division, all the BJP candidates for the posts of president and vice president were elected unopposed.
Manjit Rawat in Dehradun, Gajendra Singh Rawat in Chamoli, Sharda Rana in Uttarkashi, Pankaj Rawat in Pauri, Subhash Chandra Ramola in Tehri and Vijendra Chaudhary in Haridwar district were elected unopposed on the post of president of the DCBs.
Expressing happiness at the results, the cooperation minister Dhan Singh Rawat said that the unanimous election sends a message of mutual trust, organizational coordination and strengthening the spirit of cooperation. He said that the fact that the Congress has not been able to stand anywhere in the cooperative elections shows that the common people have expressed confidence in the policies of BJP in the cooperative sector.
