Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday directed officials to prepare a comprehensive action plan for concrete work in the field of Sanskrit in Haridwar in view of the upcoming Kumbh Mela.
Reviewing the Sanskrit Education department at his residence, the CM said that a large number of devotees from across the country and the world come to the Kumbh Mela and therefore innovative initiatives should be taken to present Sanskrit and the Indian knowledge tradition on a wide scale.
He directed officials to make effective efforts to preserve, promote and widely propagate Sanskrit in the State. Dhami said that along with the study of Sanskrit, children should be given as much information as possible about the Vedas, Upanishads, Puranas and other important Sanskrit texts and for this, simple and effective mediums should be developed according to the children’s age and interests.
He further directed officials to take effective initiatives to promote Sanskrit at the Char Dhams as well as other major religious and spiritual sites in the State. Necessary action should be taken to display inspirational sentences, Shlokas and their simple meanings in Sanskrit at these sites and to make Sanskrit more widely accessible to devotees and tourists.
“Sanskrit education and its promotion should be rapidly promoted in the State,” he said, adding that there will be no shortage of funds for effective work related to preservation and promotion of Sanskrit.
Secretary Sanskrit Education Deepak Kumar informed that one Model Sanskrit Village has been inaugurated in each of the 13 districts where work is underway to make Sanskrit a part of daily conversation and behaviour. He said the process of formation of the Sanskrit Commission has also been taken forward in the State.
