Lead agency suggests measures to curb accidents on Datkali- Asharodi stretch

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun
Following frequent accidents on the newly constructed stretch from Datkali temple tunnel to Asharodi checkpost, a team from the lead agency led by joint transport commissioner Rajiv Kumar Mehra recently inspected the accident spot and recommended immediate short-term measures, including zig-zag barricading, among others.
According to officials, the site was inspected by deputy transport commissioner Shailesh Tiwari, Regional Transport Officer (Enforcement and Road Safety) Dehradun Division Anita Chamola and others.
In the inspection the lead agency collected evidence on the spot and inspected the newly constructed road from Datkali temple tunnel to Asharodi checkpost. Officials said accidents have been occurring frequently on this route for some time and most of them were caused by heavy vehicles in the early morning hours.
The team suggested that it is necessary to control the speed of vehicles by installing zig-zag barricades at least at two places on the approximately two km stretch between the police checkpost and the joint checkpost.
It also recommended installation of digital speed display boards at two to three places on the entire route, shifting of the display board installed by Smart City at Asharodi check post elsewhere, lopping of trees and bushes near the check post and putting up big signboards at the entrance of the State and along the route warning travellers about the continuous slope and accident-prone spots, they added.
