Even before release of its election manifesto the Congress party has opened its box of pre-election sops to woo the electorate of Uttarakhand. The party has announced that its government in the state would provide the cooking gas cylinder at Rs 500 and would make a provision of Rs 40,000 per year for five lakh families of the state. The Congress has also promised that when in power it would provide employment to four lakh youngsters. These sops were doled out to the electorate of Uttarakhand by the Congress on the occasion of launch of its election theme song on Monday. Titled ‘Uttarakhand Swabhiman- Char Dham Char Kam’- the theme song of the party tried to evoke the issue of Uttarakhandiyat along with its four of its major pre poll promises to the people of the state. Apart from the promise of providing subsidised cooking gas cylinders, jobs and Rs 40,000 to five lakh families, the Congress party also assured that it would provide quality health care facilities at every village and every door step.
The chief minister of the Chhattisgarh Bhupesh Baghel launched the theme song, the campaign jingle and the party’s campaign vans in a programme organised here on Monday. The head of the campaign committee and former chief minister Harish Rawat, party’s observer Mohan Prakash, the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Ganesh Godiyal, the leader of opposition (LoP) Pritam Singh, Harak Singh Rawat and the national spokesman of Congress, Gaurav Vallabh were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Baghel said that unemployment and prices have increased sharply during the regime of Narendra Modi. The rich have become richer while the poor have become poorer. He added that after providing cooking gas cylinders to every household the Modi government increased the price of gas cylinder from Rs 450 to Rs 950. Baghel claimed that it was done to provide benefits to the industrialist friends of PM Modi. Lauding the promises made by the Uttarakhand Congress for the benefit of the poor, Baghel claimed that all promises made by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi are being fulfilled by the Chhattisgarh government. He said that the people of Himachal Pradesh have shown that the BJP needs to be defeated in order to bring the prices under control. “In Himachal Pradesh, the BJP lost three assembly and one parliamentary seat in the by elections after which the Modi government reduced the prices of diesel and petrol. They (BJP) can only talk and not work,’’ he said.
