Action taken against 25 under Goonda Act, over 450 criminals arrested

Dehradun police have taken strict action against criminals under Operation Prahar. Dehradun senior superintendent of police Pramendra Dobal said that action has been taken against 25 accused under the Goonda Act in the first five months of 2026. Several habitual offenders are also being externed from the district to maintain law and order, Dobal said. 

The SSP said that four new cases have recently been registered under the Gangster Act and further action is being taken against the accused involved in these cases. He added that police are continuously targeting wanted criminals and repeat offenders across the district.

According to Dobal, more than 450 criminals have been arrested so far this year during various police operations. He said the police are working on all fronts to control crime and ensure public safety.

Dobal said that strict action has been taken against people involved in street crimes and drunken driving. More than 2,000 vehicles have either been seized or penalised during enforcement drives. He said Operation Prahar is being carried out regularly to keep criminal activities under control.

Speaking about ATS Colony resident builder Puneet Aggrawal, Dobal said that the district magistrate had earlier ordered action against him under the Goonda Act. After the order, Aggrawal reportedly left his residence. Later, he obtained relief from the Uttarakhand High Court regarding public announcement proceedings. The SSP said police will soon take further action in the matter as per legal provisions.
