Chief secretary Anand Bardhan has directed the Health department to ensure that all the hospitals in the State conform to the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH) norms. He gave the order while chairing a review meeting of the department at the State secretariat on Tuesday.
The CS said that in the first phase, NABH accreditation should be ensured for all district hospitals and major sub-district hospitals of the State by March 31, 2027. The CS said that to maintain quality in hospitals, arrangements for regular inspection can also be made through NABH.
Emphasising on the need for digitisation and e-hospitalisation, the CS said that the Integrated Health Management System (IHMS) should be implemented in the State without any delay.
He said that the department should work on various options for filling the vacant posts of doctors quickly. The CS said that the doctors who are willing to provide services even after retirement, necessary formalities and paperwork should be completed before their retirement. He also asked the officers to work on the possibilities of adding specialist doctors working in private hospitals as visiting doctors in government hospitals.
The CS said that the dialysis facilities in government hospitals across the State should be made operational 24×7. He also called for the early establishment of kidney transplant facilities in the State.
The CS was informed that the necessary infrastructure for kidney transplants has been established and specialists have also been arranged. On this, he directed that the kidney transplant facility should be operational within the next three months.
He said that effective arrangements should be made for making birth and death certificates easily. The CS said that parents should not have to make unnecessary rounds of hospitals, municipal corporations or other offices for birth certificates. Similarly, the relatives of the deceased should not have to face unnecessary trouble in getting death certificates. He directed the authorities to identify the practical problems arising in the process and resolve them immediately.
In the meeting, the CS also emphasized on the need to further strengthen the State’s government medical colleges. He directed that continued efforts should be made to improve the quality of medical college wards and to provide super-specialty services in government medical colleges. The CS directed that evening OPD in medical college should start.
Secretary Vinay Shankar Pandey, CEO of the State Health Authority (SHA) Reena Joshi and senior officers of the health department attended the meeting.
