An alleged molestation of a young woman by a sanitation worker at Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) Hospital has sparked concern and raised serious questions over the safety of visitors at the hospital. Taking cognisance of the matter, the hospital administration removed the worker from duty at the hospital with immediate effect.
According to reports, the young woman had recently come to the hospital for treatment. After consulting doctors, she went to the medicine counter where several other patients were also standing. At that time, a sanitation worker deployed at the hospital through Uttarakhand Purva Sainik Kalyan Nigam Limited (UPNL) allegedly stood behind her and molested her. At that time, the woman had raised an alarm after which security guards and other visitors gathered at the spot and thrashed the accused.
The incident has once again raised questions about the safety of visitors, especially women, at the hospital. A few days ago, another case had come to light in which a hospital employee was accused of an attempted sexual assault with a woman in the basement. Responding to the incident, the hospital’s medical superintendent Dr RS Bisht said that the sanitation worker was deployed at the hospital through UPNL. After the incident, the hospital administration took immediate action and removed him. If such an incident occurs in the future, the hospital administration will ensure that immediate action is taken against the culprit, he added.
