Reinforcing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020’s emphasis on technology-driven education, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham has successfully trained and certified more than 3,600 school teachers across India in Artificial Intelligence (AI), equipping educators with practical digital skills for modern classrooms.
The nationwide initiative, led by the Amrita School of Artificial Intelligence at the university’s Delhi NCR Faridabad campus, aligns with the All India Council for Technical Education’s (AICTE) declaration of 2025 as the “Year of Artificial Intelligence.” It aims to help teachers effectively integrate AI into teaching while promoting responsible and ethical use of emerging technologies.
Conducted through two editions comprising six online workshop sessions, the programme focused on practical, classroom-oriented applications of AI. Teachers were trained to prepare curriculum-aligned lesson plans, generate worksheets and assessments, create interactive presentations, develop educational content, and responsibly use generative AI tools to enhance teaching and learning. The training also demonstrated how AI can assist teachers in creating customised learning material for students with varying proficiency levels while reducing routine administrative work.
The initiative witnessed enthusiastic participation from educators representing private, public and government schools across the country. According to the university, the programme recorded 9,367 registrations, received 4,087 participant feedback submissions, and awarded 3,668 completion certificates.
Participant feedback reflected the programme’s impact, with over 94 per cent of respondents stating they had gained practical AI skills that could be immediately applied in classrooms. More than 96 per cent said they would recommend the workshop to fellow educators.
Bhavna Mittal, Senior Computer Science Teacher at Bal Bharati Public School, Dwarka, Delhi, said the workshop transformed her approach to classroom preparation by enabling her to create lesson plans, worksheets and assessments more creatively and efficiently using AI. Shikha Mittal, a teacher from Guru Harkrishan Public School, Karnal, Haryana, described the programme as an eye-opening experience that inspired her to explore AI-powered personalised learning for students.
Speaking on the initiative, Prof. Kamal Bijlani, Dean and Professor, School of Artificial Intelligence, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, said the National Education Policy encourages institutions to embrace innovation and technology-enabled learning. He emphasised that Artificial Intelligence should be viewed as a tool to empower teachers rather than replace them, adding that the university is committed to building a nationwide community of AI-enabled educators capable of using technology responsibly to improve learning outcomes.
The university believes that strengthening teachers’ AI capabilities creates a multiplier effect, benefiting thousands of students across diverse educational settings. As Artificial Intelligence continues to transform education and the workplace, the initiative serves as a scalable model for enhancing digital readiness, responsible AI adoption and technology-enabled learning, while supporting India’s vision of building a future-ready education system.
