Ardh Kumbh 2027: Channelisation of rivers must be done on time: Maharaj

In view of the Ardh Kumbh Mela slated in Haridwar next year, river channelisation and stormwater master drainage system work should be completed in a timely manner, said the State Irrigation, Tourism and Culture minister Satpal Maharaj  while presiding over a review meeting involving  the Irrigation department and Minor Irrigation department  here on Monday.

Speaking of the Song Dam project in Dehradun, he said that till now an additional amount of Rs.274.20 crore has been released for it which costs Rs 2069.64 crore. “This project will provide 150 MLD drinking water daily to the 11 lakh population of Dehradun city,” he said.  He further informed that the work of Jamrani Dam project costing Rs 3678.23 crore is in progress. “Till now works worth Rs 989.96 crore have been completed under this project,” he added.

The Irrigation department has received revenue to the tune of Rs 242 crore in 2025-26, he said and added that it is currently working on the repair and renovation of canals and tube wells across the State at a cost of Rs 449.25 crore and is constructing reservoirs for water harvesting, enrichment, drinking water and irrigation. “Under minor irrigation, work is underway on small check dams, ponds and recharge shafts in the State,” Maharaj said.
