An avalanche occurred in the upper reaches of Kanchanganga near Badrinath Dham at about 10 AM on Sunday. The incident did not cause any damage.
The pieces of snow from the peak rolled down the Kanchanganga gorge and settled in it. Following the incident, Chamoli district magistrate Gaurav Kumar said that no loss of life or damage to property had resulted from the avalanche in the Kanchanganga area. He further said that this is part of a natural process. Such incidents take place from time to time.
The impact of the avalanche did not even reach the road and was limited to the gorge. Though the traffic and routine life has not been affected, the administration is consistently monitoring the area, he said, while adding that the situation is completely normal.
