With hot weather continuing in the State, the Uttarakhand Fire and Emergency Services (UFES) received 21 fire related calls across the Dehradun district on Sunday. The Chief Fire Officer (CFO) Abhinav Tyagi said that the department received nearly one emergency call every hour and prompt action by firefighters helped prevent several major accidents.
According to the UFES, incidents of fire were reported from different areas involving dry grass, garbage dumps, trees, vehicles and buildings. Fire tenders and teams from Dehradun, Doiwala, Vikasnagar and Rishikesh fire stations were sent to the affected spots. “Despite the heat, smoke and flames, firefighters managed to control the fires quickly and stop them from spreading further,” Tyagi said. No loss of life or serious injuries were reported in any of the incidents due to the timely response of the fire teams. Out of the total incidents, the Dehradun fire station handled 12 calls, while Doiwala and Vikasnagar handled three cases each. Rishikesh fire station responded to two incidents and one fire incident was also managed in the Mussoorie area.
The CFO commended the efforts of the firefighters and said that the department remains on alert round the clock to ensure public safety. He said rising temperatures and heatwave conditions have increased the risk of fire incidents across the district. He also appealed to people to remain careful while dealing with dry grass, garbage, inflammable materials and electrical equipment during the summer season. “In case of any fire or emergency situation, we advise people to immediately dial emergency number 112 for help,” he added.
