The Bharatiya Janata Party has welcomed the decision of the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to initiate Operation Kalnemi to check impostors duping the public in the guise of Sadhus. The BJP State president and Rajya Sabha member Mahendra Bhatt said that this is part of Dhami’s commitment to protect Sanatan Dharma in Uttarakhand.

Appreciating the chief minister’s decision, he said that this will weed out impostors from the State. He warned that those donning the fake religious attire of ascetics to criminally play with the sentiments of the public will now face action. Bhatt said, “Cases of crimes involving people posing as religious personalities and exploiting the sentiments of the public often come to light. The police also take action in such cases.

However, the need for stern action in such cases was also being felt. The chief minister taking serious cognisance of this issue and directing the start of Operation Kalnemi to tackle such fraud is a commendable step. In addition to being criminal in nature, such incidents of fraud also hurt the religious sentiments of the people while also affecting the atmosphere in the State.

Considering the character of Devbhumi, such instances are unforgivable and it was necessary to put a check on these. Since the BJP is committed to maintain the character of Devbhumi while making the State prosperous, our government took historic actions like the introduction of the Uniform Civil Code and laws against religious conversion and riots in addition to action against illegal religious structures encroaching on government land. Operation Kalnemi is also a part of actions aimed at fulfilling our commitment,” the BJP State president said.
