To ensure peaceful panchayat elections, the Uttarkashi district police have been conducting drives against sale and smuggling of illegal liquor across the district. As part of this initiative, Barkot police arrested an alleged bootlegger and seized a huge consignment of illegal English liquor from him.
The Barkot police station in-charge, Deepak Kathait said that they had stopped a person identified as Prem Lal (38), resident of Syalna, Barkot, near a hotel at Kharadi.
As he was searched, police found 45 bottles of illegal English liquor. During interrogation, he could not produce valid documents for possessing the liquor upon which he was arrested. Later, a case was registered against him under section 60 of the Excise Act at Barkot police station.
