Newborn baby found abandoned on rooftop, admitted to NICU

A shocking incident came to light in the Vasant Vihar area of Dehradun on Friday after a newborn baby boy was found abandoned on the roof of a house in Rishi Vihar, F block. The information was received through the emergency number 112. After receiving the information police quickly rescued the infant and safely shifted to the Government Doon Medical College hospital.

According to information from official sources, Rahul informed the police that an unknown person had left a sack on his roof, inside which a newborn baby was found. The police reached the site after receiving the information. With the help of a woman constable, the sack was opened and an infant baby boy was found alive inside it. The police shifted the baby safely to GDMC hospital in a government vehicle.

Doctors at the hospital admitted the newborn to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for medical care and safety. According to the doctors, the baby is stable and healthy. The police later returned to the police station and started further legal action.

Police said that abandoning a newborn is a serious crime. A case has been registered under Section 93 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. The police are trying to identify and trace the parents or guardians who abandoned the baby.
