The Congress party continued to hold protests in different parts of the State on Monday on its demand to arrest chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

On the call given by Pradesh Congress Committee president Ganesh Godiyal, the Congress workers took to the streets in all 27 organizational districts of the State. They held demonstrations and sent a memorandum demanding resignation and arrest of Gyanesh Kumar to the President of India through the administration. At many places, workers also burnt effigies of CEC Kumar.

In the provisional State capital Dehradun, the workers of Mahanagar Congress gathered at the State headquarters and took out a procession towards the Clock Tower. Led by Mahanagar president Jaswinder Singh Gogi, vice president Suryakant Dhasmana, president of Mahila Congress Jyoti Rautela and SC cell president Madan Lal, the Congress workers torched the effigy of Kumar. Dhasmana said that an investigative report published in one of a leading newspapers of the country has exposed the entire conspiracy of vote theft in the country.

He said that the report reveals that CEC has taken unilateral and unconstitutional decisions 14 times in the last 10 months, on which the two other Commissioners of the Election Commission, Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi had recorded written objections.

Dhasmana said that the names of 13 crore voters have been deleted from the voter lists in the name of Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.

He said that when democracy itself has not survived inside the Election Commission, then how will it remain safe in the country. “Now it has been proved that the Election Commission is working at the behest of BJP and a conspiracy is being hatched to make BJP win by stealing votes,’’ he said.

General secretary Pratima Singh, president of Social Media cell Abhinav Thapar, Sunil Jaiswal, Manish Nagpal, Urmila Thapa and other leaders took part in the protest.
