Police recovered two sharp weapons and two toy guns from a man inside a tent along the Kedarnath bridle path. “We allow people to enter the shrine only after proper checking. No one will be allowed to enter the Kedarnath area with weapons,” the inspector general of police (IG Garhwal), Rajeev Swaroop said.
After the recovery, Rudraprayag police started an inquiry and contacted the man’s family. Police identified him as Pradeep Singh, a resident of Rae Bareli district.
The officials said that he had joined the Central Reserve Police Force in 2004 but was removed from service in 2018 due to mental health problems.
Police said that the man often travels to temples and religious places. During questioning, it was found that he would carry toy guns as a hobby. He had brought them from Sonprayag to Kedarnath with other belongings because he feared theft from his vehicle.
Police at Kotwali Sonprayag said that legal action is being taken against him. Action was also taken against the person who had allowed him to stay in the tent without checking any valid identity card.
