Woman files rape case against property dealers in Rishikesh

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE /Dehradun

Rishikesh police have registered a case against three property dealers after a woman accused them of rape, illegal confinement and death threats. Police arrested one accused on Sunday while an accused father-son duo is still on the run.

According to the information provided by official sources, the woman told police that the accused had been exploiting her since 2021. She alleged that her husband’s business partners—Manjeet Johar, his son Manav Johar and their associate Kushagra Sharma (Romi)—took advantage of her family problems and forced her into sexual abuse.

She further alleged that in January 2022, Manjeet Johar entered her home and raped her. Later, in February 2023, her husband took her to a penthouse where Manav Johar allegedly drugged her, assaulted her and took objectionable photos. After this, Sharma allegedly blackmailed her with those photos and forced her into repeated sexual assaults in hotels in Dehradun and Rishikesh, the complainant said.

The woman said she stayed silent because the accused threatened to kill her sick father and her only daughter. They told her that they could make her family “disappear”. She finally shared details of her ordeal with her sister, who encouraged her to go to the police.

Considering the seriousness of the case, Rishikesh Kotwali police registered a case based on charges of rape, confinement and threats. Sharma was arrested from his residence. Police teams are searching for Manjeet Johar and Manav Johar, who are expected to be caught soon.
