Police verify 1,300 outsiders in Dehradun, impose fine on 96 property owners

Police in Dehradun verified about 1,300 outsiders during a verification campaign on Sunday. The police took action against 96 property owners under Section 83 of the Police Act for not verifying tenants and imposed a fine of Rs 9.6 lakh.

The police also issued challans to 75 individuals under Section 81 of the Police Act and collected Rs 16,250 as penalty, the officials said. They informed that the police teams carried out verification drives across different police station areas in both urban and rural regions of the district. During the campaign, about 1,300 individuals underwent verification.

Besides this, the police also brought 88 suspects to police stations for questioning and completed their verification. The officials stated that all police station in-charges have been directed to ensure verification of tenants and outsiders in their respective areas and to take legal action against those who fail to follow the rules. Besides this, the police also imposed penalty on 90 people for drinking openly on roadsides and inside vehicles on Sunday. They were taken to the police station in a bus.

After questioning, all were fined under the Police Act, with a total penalty of Rs 22,500 collected. Police also seized four vehicles used during the activities. Such drives will continue in future too, the officials said.
