CM Dhami intervenes in detained captain Pant’s case

Following the request made by Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the Indian High Commission in London has started playing an active role in the case of detention of captain Ajay Pant. The commission has provided detailed information to the CM in the case. Pant, a resident of Uttarakhand was recently detained in the United Kingdom. Pant was captain of an oil tanker which was intercepted by the British army while passing through the British Channel.
According to the High Commission, captain Pant is currently in judicial custody at HMP Winchester. On June 19, the High Commission contacted him through the prison’s telephone system. During this conversation, Pant stated that he was in good health and that he was receiving the medical facilities available on the prison premises. He was also in regular contact with his wife.
The officials of the High Commission informed the CM that the matter has also been raised with the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) to ensure timely consular assistance to Captain Pant and the full protection of his safety, health and rights. The High Commission is also in constant contact with Captain Pant’s wife, his employer, legal representatives and other concerned parties. The company has assured Captain Pant of legal assistance and necessary support to his family.
Pant was produced before the court and remanded in judicial custody and the next hearing in the case is scheduled on July 16, 2026.
CM Dhami said that the State government is fully sensitive to the interests of its citizens and is in constant contact with the Government of India, the Ministry of External Affairs, and the Indian High Commission in captain Pant’s case.
