The HNB Garhwal University has recently issued a letter to its affiliated colleges, notifying them to ensure that action is taken to conduct students’ union elections at their level, as in past years. It is important to note that while the election date for State universities has been recently announced, Garhwal University had not issued a similar notification, causing concern among students at affiliated colleges. Earlier, the president of the student union at DAV PG College, Siddharth Aggarwal had expressed his apprehension regarding the absence of communication from the university about the student union elections.
In light of this, the Garhwal University recently issued a letter to its affiliated colleges, stating that the university has received numerous phone calls concerning the conduct of students’ union elections. In response to this, the university reiterated that colleges should take the necessary steps to conduct student union elections at their level, as they have in past years. Further, the university’s letter emphasised the importance of adhering to the academic calendar prescribed by the Garhwal University for the academic session 2025-26, ensuring that all academic and related activities are carried out accordingly.
Regarding the students’ union elections, the principal of DAV PG College, Kaushal Kumar said that the Garhwal University issued a letter to the affiliated colleges. The letter instructed them to conduct the elections as they had in past years. He said that in past years, the State administration notified the director of Higher Education about the students’ union elections, who subsequently issued notifications to the colleges, enabling the elections to be held. Similarly, following the university’s directions, the elections will be conducted this year once the colleges receive any related notifications from the director of Higher Education or according to any other further notification from the university.
