PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE /Dehradun

A student was found unconscious on the roadside after reportedly kidnapping and assaulting him after the DBS college students union election. A group of college students allegedly took him and later dropped him on the roadside in Karanpur in an unconscious state. A case has been registered against seven people at the Raipur police station on the complaint of the victims on Friday.

The incident took place at about 10 PM on October 1 in the Upper Aamwala-Mayur Vihar area. As per the complaint, Rahul Dhanik and Dhruv Dhanwal were sleeping in the room of newly elected students union president Abhinav Kafalia when a group of students allegedly entered the room.

The complaint states that the accused, who are reportedly associated with Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), allegedly assaulted Dhanik and Dhanwal. The accused have been identified as Himanshu Kumar, Yogesh Ghaghat, Manveer Negi, Sujit Thapa, Rahul and Monu Sardar, along with another person.

Dhanik said that after the assault, Negi and Ghaghat forced him onto a scooter and took him away. He alleged that he was later left in an unconscious condition in Karanpur.

Dhruv was allegedly taken on another scooter by Kumar and Thapa to a location near DAV Chowk. He was allegedly assaulted there as well.

The victims alleged that the incident was linked to a dispute between National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) and ABVP workers after the college election. They claimed that a dispute had taken place earlier on October 1 after the NSUI candidate won the president’s post. The Raipur police have registered a case against seven people and are investigating the allegations.
