The politics over the women reservation is getting heated up in Uttarakhand. The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Ganesh Godiyal has said that the party will organise a Dharna in front of Uttarakhand Vidhan Sabha on Thursday. He said the Congress wants that the 33 per cent reservation to the women in Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabhas should be immediately granted. He said the Congress party is ready to support the State government if it convenes a special session of Vidhan Sabha for providing 33 per cent of reservation to women in the 70 member assembly. He said that the government should table a resolution in Vidhan Sabha for reserving 33 per cent of the VS seats for women and send it to the Union government. Godiyal said that the government deliberately linked the Women reservation bill which was passed unanimously by both houses of the parliament in 2023 with the delimitation exercise and census of 2011. “ I am ready to support the move to reserve 33 per cent of the seats in Vidhan Sabha for women. I will have no regret even if my constituency is reserved for women,’’ he added.
