Congress express concern on arbitrary fee increase by pvt schools

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun

A delegation of Uttarakhand Congress led by chairman of the election campaign committee of the party, Pritam Singh met the district magistrate of Dehradun Savin Bansal on the issue of arbitrary fee hike by the private schools and harassment of parents by the private school operators.

Singh told the DM that the private schools have increased their fees arbitrarily in absence of any law and transparency in the system. He said that the parents of the students are being forced to purchase costly stationery and uniforms from specific shops due to which they are reeling under huge economic burden.

The secretary (communication) of the All India Congress Committee, Vaibhav Walia said that the State government should order the private schools to strictly follow the rules regarding the fees. He said that the administration should put a rein on the increase in fees by the private schools and take action against those responsible for arbitrary hikes in fees. He said that the Congress party believes that education is not a business but a basic right. Singh added that the private schools are engaged in profiteering which is unfortunate and will not be tolerated.

The Congress delegation also met the parents holding a protest outside the DM’s office on the issue and listened to their grievances. The Congress leaders assured that the party is standing firmly with them on the issue of harassment by the private school operators.
