Congress leaders demand fair inquiry in Champawat gangrape case

The leaders of Uttarakhand Congress have expressed shock at the gang rape of a minor girl in Champawat and demanded that strict action against those involved in the heinous crime.
The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Ganesh Godiyal alleged that the accused were connected with the ruling BJP. He said that the police should take immediate action against the culprits.
The leader of opposition in Vidhan Sabha Yashpal Arya said that a class X student, who had gone to a friend’s mehndi ceremony was gang-raped by three youths. He said that the victim’s father has made serious allegations against the BJP Mandal vice-president, a former village Pradhan and a student. Arya said that when the victim attempted to call home, the accused assaulted her, tied her and locked her in the room.
The LoP said that the incident has put a question mark on the law and order situation in Uttarakhand.
He said that the case should be taken up in a fast track court and the culprits should be given strict punishment soon. Arya also called for an impartial investigation against those who provide political protection to the culprits.
