Congress protests against 5 murders in 15 days in Dehradun

Uttarakhand Congress organised a Gherao outside the State Police Headquarters on Saturday to register its protest against increasing crimes and deteriorating law and order situation in the State. The protest was led by the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Ganesh Godiyal and attended by head of the campaign committee, Pritam Singh and chairperson of the election management committee, Harak Singh Rawat. The Congress workers assembled at Rajiv Bhawan on the day and started to march towards Police Headquarters. The Police had erected barricades on the Subhash Road to stop the march of the Congress workers. Some of the leaders including PCC president Godiyal, Pritam Singh and Harak Singh tried to scale the barricades to enter the PHQ.
The Congress leaders later submitted a memorandum to the director general of the police (DGP).. The PCC president said that an atmosphere of fear prevails in the State due to the recent series of murders and other heinous crimes in the provisional State capital Dehradun and other cities. He said that the law and order situation in the State is pathetic and criminals have no fear of police. Godiyal said that in the last 15 days, five people have been murdered in capital Dehradun and police are yet to nab all the criminals involved in the crime. The PCC president said that the police should undertake an intensive campaign in all the sensitive and crime prone areas of the State. The police should also take a stern action against organised crime and criminals. The responsibility of the officers should be fixed and punitive action against irresponsible personnel should be taken. Badrinath MLA Lakhpat Singh Butola, former ministers Hira Singh Bisht and Survir Singh Sajwan, Mahila Congress president Jyoti Rautela and other leaders attended the protest.
