Ankita Bhandari case : Sumit renews demand for fair investigation

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Haldwani

The senior Congress leader and local MLA Sumit Hridayesh has once again reiterated his party’s long-standing demand for a fair and transparent investigation into the Ankita Bhandari murder case. “With many questions remaining unanswered, a CBI-led investigation under the supervision of a sitting judge is an imperative to unravel the truth behind the murder,” he said while addressing a press conference here on Friday.

Recounting the horror and anguish that the murder had triggered, Hridayesh said that it had left the ordinary families dreaming of a bright future of their daughters scared.  “Ankita must have dreamed of a better future for herself and her parents,” he added.

He questioned the role of a section of the media, asking whether the channels are treating this case with the same seriousness now as they had previously. He again raised the issue of the bulldozer action on the resort, asking whether it was intended to obliterate evidence that could have led to the identification of the real culprits behind the heinous crime.

Further, he pointed to the alleged reply by then minister Prem Chand Aggarwal in the Assembly, which mentioned the resort’s ‘VIP wing’. “This aspect of the case remains murky and so it needs to be fully investigated,” he said.

He also appealed to the national media to highlight the CBI probe demand as they did regarding the Sushant Singh Rajput case.

Raising the issue of surging crimes against women across the state, he noted that this trend must be reined in ruthlessly to ensure women’s safety.
