The five Nihang Sikhs who had taken over the fourth floor and terrace of the Gurudwara at Nagrasu in Rudraprayag district on June 20 finally came down on the fourth day on Tuesday. They came down after talks with a delegation of Nihangs from Punjab and local officials. According to officials, the five persons departed for Punjab. The situation in the town is peaceful and under control. It will be recalled that the group of Nihangs had barricaded themselves on the fourth floor of the Gurudwara and were pelting stones at those trying to approach them. The authorities had deployed police and ITBP personnel on the road to prevent any untoward incident.
Meanwhile, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami chaired a high level meeting in which he directed officials to lay special focus on the convenience of those undertaking the Char Dham Yatra and pilgrimage to Hemkund Sahib. Stating that all pilgrims and tourists are welcome in Uttarakhand, he appealed to them to desist from heeding rumours. Dhami said that regarding the incidents in Karnprayag and Nagrasu, the State government, administration and police are taking necessary action considering all sides. Action has been taken against those found guilty in the investigation. Strict action will be taken in the future based on all the facts, he said. “The Char Dham Yatra and Hemkund Yatra are continuing normally with more than 40 lakh devotees having visited the Char Dham so far. The number of devotees who visited Hemkund in the initial days itself was about 25,000 more than last year’s figure,” he said.
Dhami also appealed to those spreading misleading information on social media to desist from attempting to divide the society. Legal action will be taken against those spreading misleading and inciting material, he warned.“The State government believes that any action which affects the dignity of any person, religion or faith is not acceptable. It is possible to resolve all problems through dialogue in a harmonious atmosphere,” the CM added.
