Cylinder supply issues affect local life in Nainital, officials handling situation

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Nainital
Locals in Nainital complained of disruption in cooking gas cylinder supply at the ward level, alleging that they had to stand in queue for hours despite district magistrate Lalit Mohan Rayal’s instructions for home delivery of cylinders. The home delivery facility could not be implemented in some wards of the city on Saturday due to which the consumers queued at gas agencies and main distribution centres. A large number of locals reached such sites in Tallital and Mallital areas of the city to get cooking gas cylinders. Many could be seen waiting on the roadside for hours with empty cylinders. The crowd caused some public inconvenience which had to be sorted out by the district administration and the police. The locals said that while the district magistrate has directed home delivery of cooking gas cylinders at the ward level to maintain the supply of domestic LPG cylinders, the facility could not be implemented in various areas. On the other hand, suppliers are stating that the home delivery facility is functioning but the people are still crowding distribution centres.
Parvat Gas Agency manager Anikita Pandey said that arrangements are being made for home delivery in the wards, despite which the people are crowding Tallital and Mallital areas to get cylinders. This is creating unnecessary crowds at the agency, she said.
Meanwhile, the district administration is also monitoring the situation. Tehsildar Akshay Bhatt said that teams of officials are monitoring the situation, inspecting agencies and working to resolve any issues being faced.
