Dehradun district magistrate Ashish Chauhan has directed all government departments to prepare practical and people-friendly proposals for the district plan 2026-27. Chairing a meeting on Tuesday, he said that development projects should help strengthen Dehradun’s economy and directly benefit local residents. Officials informed that about Rs 99.39 crore has been approved under the district plan for Dehradun in the financial year 2026-27. The DM asked every department to include at least one innovative and sustainable project in the district plan. Suggestions from public representatives should also be considered so that balanced development can take place across the district, Chauhan said.

He stressed that pending and incomplete projects should be completed on priority. “Only those projects should be included in the district plan where land is available, there are no disputes and the work can be completed within a fixed time frame,” he said. The DM warned that departments failing to complete projects despite having sufficient funds would be held accountable. Sectors like agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry, fisheries, dairy development and small industries should be promoted. Activities like blueberry farming, trout farming, poultry farming and sugarcane cultivation should be encouraged to strengthen the rural economy, he added.

Chauhan also instructed the Education department to ensure that every school in the district has basic facilities such as electricity, drinking water and toilets.

All projects included in the district plan will be physically verified. Strict action will be taken against officials if public funds are not used properly or if development works fail to benefit the public, he added.
