Dehradun–Tanakpur Express will now operate three days a week in Uttarakhand. The Railways minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in an approval letter on Tuesday. Dhami had requested the minister to increase the train’s frequency. The Ministry of Railways approved the proposal to raise the frequency of train number 15019/15020 from weekly to tri-weekly. The change aims to provide better rail connectivity between Dehradun and the Kumaon region. Dhami said that the decision will benefit residents, students, tourists and business travellers. He noted that the increased frequency will improve connections between Kumaon and Garhwal, supporting transportation and economic activities. He expressed gratitude to Vaishnaw and said that the State government aims to connect all regions of Uttarakhand through enhanced transport services. The decision also intends to support tourism and trade in the State’s hill and border areas, he added. Dhami also stated that the approval reflects ongoing coordination between the State government and the central government to improve transport infrastructure in Uttarakhand.
