The Dehradun district administration has seized the pistol of Punit Agrawal for allegedly waving his licensed weapon in anger at children bursting firecrackers during Deepawali in the ATS Colony under Raipur police station limits. The Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal took action in the matter after he received a report from the senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh regarding the issue. The DM ordered the seizure of the firearm and suspended Agrawal’s licence, initiating proceedings for its cancellation. According to the police report, a dispute broke out on October 19 between two groups over lighting firecrackers in ATS Colony. During the argument, Agrawal, a resident of 144L ATS Colony near IT Park, displayed his licensed firearm. Police booked both parties under Sections 126 and 135 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) to maintain law and order. The report stated that displaying a firearm during a minor dispute was a negligent act and violated the terms under which the licence had been issued. The SSP recommended licence cancellation, following which the DM ordered the seizure and suspension.
Bansal said that any act of misuse of arms would invite strict action, adding that such conduct will not be tolerated in the district. Both parties involved in the incident have been summoned for further inquiry, he added.
