In response to the directives from the Central Government, the Regional Transport Office (RTO) is planning to organise a Road Safety Month in January, during which various activities will be held in Dehradun region. Informing this in detail, the regional transport officer (Enforcement and Road Safety) for the Dehradun Division, Anita Chamola said that the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued instructions to all stakeholders to observe road safety month. Conducted every year pan- India, it aims to raise awareness among citizens and stakeholders about the critical road safety challenges. In line with these directives, the RTO also plans to organise a series of events in January to promote awareness about road safety, civic sense, traffic rules and responsibilities, she said.
“So we have decided to make January road safety month across Dehradun region which includes districts such as Haridwar, Dehradun, Uttarkashi and Tehri. Multiple activities to be held in the month will focus on the importance of road safety,” Chamola stated.
During this month, RTO will conduct awareness drives in schools, institutions and residential societies in the region. These initiatives will include competitions, quizzes and various engaging activities focused on road safety. Additionally, free health check-ups for drivers and conductors of public transport will be offered. There will also be rallies in collaboration with car dealerships, along with pollution checks for vehicles in partnership with pollution control centres.
Chamola said that they are also planning to organise awareness campaigns at Rashtrapati Bhavan for visitors. Regular enforcement will take place daily throughout the month, she added.
Further, street plays (nukkad natak) will be organised to highlight the importance of road safety. “RTO will also assess roads that require improvements to enhance safety measures,” Chamola said, adding that they are committed to ensuring safe roads for one and all.
