Dhami government a failure on all fronts: PCC president

PIONEER NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun

The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara has said that though chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is patting his back on completion of four years in office, the fact is that his government has proved to be a failure on all fronts.Taking a dig at the CM, the PCC president said that he should be rewarded for ever increasing unemployment and migration from the State. Interacting with the media persons at Rajiv Bhawan on Monday, Mahara said that while the CM is patting his own back, the BJP MPs, MLAs and BJP functionaries are exposing the failures of the government.

Stating that Uttarakhand tops the mountainous States in crimes against women, Mahara added that efforts are being made to cover up the case involving former Haridwar president of BJP Mahila Morcha Anamika Sharma. He claimed that many prominent faces will get exposed if this case is investigated properly. Questioning the facilities being provided to Sharma inside the jail, Mahara said she has access to a mobile phone in the jail. He said that the name of the VIP in the Ankita Bhandari murder case is yet to be disclosed.

Pointing at the mismanagement of the Char Dham Yatra, the PCC chief averred that a large number of pilgrims have died in the Yatra. He said that the number of road accidents have increased and in the last four years the maximum number of people have died in accidents. Mahara said that the government is claiming credit for implementing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) but its violation was done first by a former BJP MLA.

He also accused the Dhami government of tampering with the sanctity of Kedarnath Dham. He said that for the first time in history an attempt to construct a temple at a place other than the Jyotirlingas was made at Buradi in New Delhi. Similarly, allegations of theft of gold from Kedarnath temple were made and the government suppressed any investigation on the sensitive issue.

The PCC president averred that the Dhami government should also be rewarded for providing patronage to the mining and land mafia in the State. He said that those involved in the recruitment scams in the State belonged to BJP. Mahara also accused the State government of exploiting UPNL, ASHA, Anganwadi workers and the employees covered under the new pension scheme (NPS).

DEHRADUN: The PCC president Karan Mahara has said that any decision about the party’s leadership in the State will be taken by the Congress high command. Responding to a question on any plan regarding change in leadership in the Uttarakhand Congress, the PCC president said that in a recent meeting with the senior leaders of the State Congress in New Delhi, the party high command had made it clear that the current leadership will continue to lead all organisational activities, programmes and agitations of the State Congress. Mahara’s claim assumes significance since the BJP has reinstated Mahendra Bhatt as its State president, which triggered speculation on leadership issues in the faction-ridden Uttarakhand Congress.
