District hospital to seek police post after violent clash

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE / Dehradun

The Deen Dayal Upadhyay District Hospital administration is planning to soon approach the senior superintendent of police, Dehradun, for the establishment of a police post within the hospital premises.

The move comes after two groups allegedly clashed inside the hospital recently while seeking medical examination. The miscreants allegedly broke chairs and glass panes at the hospital during the altercation. When the hospital security guards tried to intervene, one guard sustained injuries. Though a complaint has been filed by the hospital authorities, the lack of safety measures and absence of a police post in the district hospital has raised concerns over the safety of patients and staff. One visitor, Hemant Jha said “The incident has raised safety concerns among visitors like us. The hospital administration must look into the matter seriously and take preventive steps so that such cases do not harm innocent people’’.

The principal medical superintendent Dr Yatendra Singh said that following the incident, security guard duty has been increased during night hours. Two security guards have been deployed at night.

“Safety at the hospital is important. In view of this, the hospital administration has decided to write soon to the SSP Dehradun for establishment of a police post within the premises. The police post will surely prevent such cases and any untoward consequences,” he added.
