The Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal has sought a report on unauthorised constructions near the airport in Jolly Grant area being carried out without a No Objection Certificate (NOC). A meeting of the Dehradun Environmental Committee of the Airports Authority of India was conducted on Thursday that focussed on addressing operational and environmental concerns, ensuring the safety and efficiency of airport operations.
The meeting was chaired by the DM who instructed the sub-divisional magistrate of Doiwala, along with the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) and airport authorities, to conduct a joint inspection of unauthorised constructions near the airport and submit a detailed report. Considering the risks posed by bird activity in the operational area of the airport, Bansal also directed officials to implement strict safety measures. He emphasised the importance of safety measures within a 10-kilometre radius of the airport to prevent bird strikes and wildlife interference.
He also directed the administration of the Municipal Council of Doiwala to ensure regular cleaning of garbage points in the area. He stated that garbage accumulation attracts birds, increasing the risk of bird strikes during aircraft landings and take offs. To mitigate this risk, he ordered the removal and proper disposal of waste from garbage collection points within the airport’s periphery.
