The Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal visited Chakrata to inspect the proposed site for a new Community Health Centre (CHC) on Wednesday. He visited the site in view of ongoing discussions about shifting the existing CHC from its current location in the congested cantonment area to a more accessible and spacious site near Gvasa Pul (Dakra).
The district administration plans to send a formal proposal, plan and report to the State government for the new facility. The proposed CHC will accommodate OPD, pharmacy, operation theatres, wards, laboratory, registration, medicine distribution and residential space for doctors. It is expected to have adequate access to sunlight and water. The current CHC, located in a narrow market area, is being upgraded with essential equipment, paramedical staff, operation theatre tables and ward attendants.
During his visit, the DM approved funds on the spot for LED focus lights in the maternity room and directed expansion of the registration and medicine counters. He also instructed the Public Works Department (PWD) to begin demarcation of land for the new CHC. The DM also reviewed facilities including the registration counter, OPD, maternity and emergency rooms, surgery area, medicine store and X-ray section.
He directed immediate repair of the Radiovisiography (RVG) X-ray machine and preparation of a departmental proposal for lighting issues in the building. Instructions were also given to the PWD to prepare cost estimates for the new building. Some local residents also expressed objections to relocating the hospital away from the main cantonment area, stating that the proposed site lacks public transport and connectivity.
Some also raised concerns about ambulance accessibility to the current CHC. The DM assured the public that any final decision would be based on public interest. A team of officials, including the Dehradun chief medical officer and other department representatives, accompanied the DM during his inspection of the proposed site.
