Dowry harassment accused hiding abroad arrested at IGI airport

In a major achievement, Ramnagar police finally arrested an accused, who had been absconding for a long time in a dowry harassment and assault case, at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi when he was returning from abroad.

The police station in-charge, Sushil Kumar informed that Poonam Padaliya, a resident of Ramnagar, had lodged a case at Kotwali Ramnagar in 2023 against her husband, Rakesh Uniyal and her sister-in-law under serious charges, including verbal abuse, physical assault and dowry harassment.

After the case was registered, the accused Rakesh Uniyal had first gone to Kuwait and later moved to Nigeria. Due to his prolonged absence, the court had issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against him.

On receiving information about the accused being in Nigeria, a lookout notice had been immediately issued through the embassy in Delhi. As soon as the plane with him abroad landed in the airport, the alert system had been activated, Kumar said.

The sub-inspector Neetu Singh, posted at Kotwali Ramnagar, along with a police team, arrested the accused from the airport. Later, he was produced before the court.
